Την καταδίκη της ΕΕ εκφράζουν με κοινή ανακοίνωσή τους η πρόεδρος της Κομισιόν, ο πρόεδρος του Ευρωπαϊκού Συμβουλίου και ο πρόεδρος του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου για την απόφαση της Ρωσίας να απαγορεύσει σε οχτώ Ευρωπαίους πολίτες ( μεταξύ των οποίων ο πρόεδρος του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου Νταβίντ Σασόλι, η αντιπρόεδρος της Κομισιόν Βέρα Γιούροβα και έξι ακόμη Ευρωπαίοι αξιωματούχοι) την είσοδο σε ρωσικό έδαφος.
Η ανακοίνωση αναφέρει ότι η ενέργεια αυτή είναι «απαράδεκτη, δεν έχει καμία νόμιμη βάση και είναι εντελώς ανεδαφική». Παράλληλα, σημειώνει ότι στοχεύει απευθείας την ΕΕ και όχι μόνο τους πολίτες στους οποίους απευθύνεται.
Τέλος, τονίζεται ότι «η ΕΕ έχει το δικαίωμα να λάβει κατάλληλα μέτρα ως απάντηση στην απόφαση των ρωσικών αρχών».
